ACCEPTABLE SUBSTRATES/PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS
PREPARATION OF SUBSTRATESubstrate shall be free from dust, oil or any contaminants which may contribute to decreased bond. Weak surfaces must be mechanically cleaned to sound and solid substrates by shot-blasting, scarifying or similar. Remove any loose particles. Surface bond strength of substrate should be minimum 72 PSI (0.5 MPa). Substrate temperature should be a minimum 43¬ƒF (+6¬ƒC) during application and air temperature maintained between 50-77¬ƒF (10-25¬ƒC). Adequate ventilation should be provided to ensure uniform drying. Felt-backed floor coverings should be removed prior to application of DRYTEK.MIXINGDRYTEK® SKIMCOAT should be mixed with 2 qts. of water per 10 lb. bag. For smaller batches mix 2 parts powder to 1 part water. Do not over water. For best results, mix 2-3 minutes with heavy duty drill.APPLICATIONApply blended material to substrate at a thickness of skim coat depth to 1/2" (1-10 mm) for all surfaces. After initial set of material, remove all overlap marks, seams and inconsistencies by scraping with steel trowel. Material can be walked on after 20-30 minutes.FLOORING INSTALLATIONFinished floor goods can be applied to surface 1/2 hour after application depending on thickness, drying conditions and type of finished floor. Due to the relatively low pH level of DRYTEK floor leveling products, finished floor goods can be applied rapidly without risk of adhesive bond failure. As a general rule, permeable materials such as carpeting may be adhesively or mechanically applied to DRYTEK underlayments when RH level of substrate (i.e. concrete slab, etc) is 95% or below. RH levels should be determined according to ASTM standard F2170. Always test performance suitability and compatibility of finished floor systems prior to their application. Sample surfaces should be installed as a field test so as to be representative of entire surface and tested for intended use. Always refer to finished floor manufacturers recommendations regarding installation instructions, restrictions and compatibility.LIMITATIONSFor indoor applications only. Not for applications exposed to continuous water of intrusion. Not for applications exposed to continuous contact with water.PACKAGINGDRYTEK® SKIMCOAT is available in 10 lb polyethylene lined paper bags.STORAGEProduct should be stored in dry conditions and in original packaging. WARNING: Dust may cause skin, eye, nose, throat, or respiratory irritation. Avoid dust inhalation and exposure to dust. If dusty, wear a NIOSH/MSHA-approved dust respirator. Use proper ventilation to reduce dust exposure. Portland cement is strongly alkaline and can be corrosive to eyes, skin and respiratory tract. Wear eye and skin protection. If eye contact occurs, immediately flush thoroughly with water for 15 minutes and get medical attention. Do not ingest. If ingested and any discomfort occurs, call physician.
